About Rebecca
Ask me my earliest memories and they’re all wrapped up here in Goodmanham Dale; walking in the back field, harvest picnics, the freedom of the outdoors, bringing in lambs, baking and just making our own fun.
I have an incredible connection to this little piece of the Yorkshire
Wolds that my family moved to in the 1960’s so it seemed only right that this became the home to Acorn Hollow in 2022. I now feel privileged that I get to share this with others.
As a small child I remember collecting an oak leaf. Fascinated by it’s wonky edges I gathered it in my pocket and later used it as a bookmark. Collecting is a habit I’ve never lost and even as an adult I still find comfort and connection to nature by having a little found natural treasure in my pocket.
The significance of the acorn and oak leaf really resonated with me many years later when I came to realise after decades of a different career that the outdoors was calling me and I wanted to return to my roots to forge a new path. I now had the opportunity to “be the tree I wanted to be”. And so Acorn Hollow was born. Or more appropriately unfurled and grew. Quite literally an acorn growing in to hopefully a mighty oak.
And now I get to share my passions and inspire others to live more of their life outdoors, fostering a quieter, slower and more thoughtful life. I can share the experience and upbringing I had and that my daughters enjoyed; one of gathering, making, cooking, growing and above all enjoying the simplicity of nature. I can guide people to truly understand what’s outside and equip them with skills in farming, the provenance of food, foraging, ancient techniques and crafts and my ultimate favourite part - cooking over a campfire with foraged and home grown produce. My passion is that one day I can grow or forage everything on my plate. I strive for a simpler life just experiencing and really noticing the seasons and their bounty. There can be no better day than one which ends with the smell of campfire and a happy heart!
And my ambitions for Acorn Hollow?
That everyone should get to experience valuable time outdoors and have the freedom to play, explore, create, cook and ‘just be’ outside. I firmly believe a life lived outdoors is a very full life.
Come and join me on the journey!
Rebecca xx
