Using plantain to create a soothing salve

If you have visited Acorn Hollow, you might have needed our homemade nettle cream to soothe your stings.  We collected plantain over the half-term holidays, learning the difference between Greater Plantain and Ribwort Plantain.  The Ribwort Plantain is the best for our salve.  Plantain has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antihistamine qualities, making it fabulous for soothing stings and skin irritations.  Don’t worry if you don’t have salve, you can easily find a plantain leaf, crush it and rub it on the affected area.  We spent a few hours shredding leaves, steeping them in oil for a couple of days before straining and heating up the liquid and mixing in beeswax.  We now have a new supply ready to soothe any bites or stings you might get whilst you are playing at Acorn Hollow.

I have made a few extra pots, so if you would like one, please let me know. I will be swapping them for donations towards funding future school trips and making visits to Acorn Hollow as affordable and accessible as I can.
