Learning on the Farm - Autumn - Thursday 12th November 2026

from £7.50

Join us for an Autumn Learning on the Farm afternoon, specially designed for home-educated children. Our theme for this session is Apples!

We’ll be taking inspiration from one of my favourite books, The Helpful Hedgehog by Rosie Welsley, as we discover more about these prickly little visitors and how we can help them prepare for winter.

After sharing the story, we’ll explore ways to create welcoming habitats for hedgehogs overwintering on the farm. There’ll also be plenty of autumnal fun as we gather around the campfire to cook toffee apples on sticks, alongside other apple- and hedgehog-themed crafts and activities.

This session offers a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the wildlife at Acorn Hollow, discover how we can care for it, and explore the world of apples through hands-on experiences, stories and seasonal activities.

Of course, there’ll be plenty of time to enjoy all the usual Acorn Hollow favourites, too! Meet our animal friends, build a den, get creative in the mud kitchen, explore the farm and enjoy some free play in the great outdoors.

We love curious minds and plenty of questions, so come ready to explore, discover and learn together in the great outdoors!

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The session runs from 2 pm to 4 pm, but please join us from 1.30 pm to settle in and enjoy the space.

What to Wear

Acorn Hollow is located on a working farm, which means we work whatever the weather, there may be mud, there may be rain, we might have wonderful bright warm sunshine, and there will be animal poo underfoot in places.  Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing, clothes and shoes that are allowed to get muddy are essential.  If you have wellies and waterproofs please wear them or bring them with you.  The more layers you can wear the better, that way we can add or take off layers depending on the weather.  It does get muddy and cold at Acorn Hollow in the autumn and winter months.

Medical Information and Allergies

Please make sure you have informed me of any essential medical information or allergies.  We will be providing Hot Chocolate and snacks, we will have ‘Free From’ alternatives if we are told about dietary requirements.

Hand Washing/Safety

Safety instructions will be delivered at the start of the session.  We will encourage children to wash and sanitise their hands at various points during the session, please could you ensure you help your children to make sure their hands are washed clean and their boots are washed off before leaving the site. You are entereing a farm environment where there is the potential to come into contact with various zoonotic diseases, including E-coli and Toxoplasmosis, we insist that you take hand washing boot cleaning very seriously, making use of the onsite handwash station and sanitiser.
